Learn to do good. Devote yourselves to justice. Aid the wronged. Uphold the
rights of the orphan. Defend the cause of the widow. - Isaiah:1:17
Tikkun Olam, or “repairing the world,” is an essential part of our lives as
Jews. We include a social action/tikkun olam component in many of our holiday
celebrations and events, in addition to our dedicated activities under this
program. We remember the hungry every year as part of our Yom Kippur fast
through Project Isaiah, and we educate ourselves about conservation and energy
efficiency as part of our Hannukah celebrations. Our teens have spent the year
studying social action as part of the JUST-ice DO IT! program, and are
volunteering their time with elders at Cedar Village. Our members collect
“day-old” bakery goods twice a week, and, together with goods collected by other
groups, they are delivered to such organization as the FreeStore FoodBank,
Stepping Stones, local hospitals, and a school for children with disabilities.
Other activities have included assisting African Jews, donating blood, routine
recycling and composting of synagogue waste, and working with youth with
disabilities.
