Bikur cholim – Visiting the Sick
Bikur cholim is an essential quality of good
interpersonal relationships. It reflects the primary Biblical value, "And you
shall love your neighbor as yourself" (Leviticus 19:18).
The BTZ Bikur Cholim
initiative reflects a millennial-long tradition of concern for others when they
are ill or need support. Our BTZ family can be there as a support when needed.
Ways we can help:
• Providing rides to events
• Phone calls and visits to those
who are ill or isolated
• Hospital visits
If you would like assistance:
• Please
contact the office if you or a family member is ill or have been hospitalized,
even briefly. Please indicate if a visit is requested, or a telephone call
periodically, or if no visit is preferred.
• Once the congregant has expressed
an interest to be visited, two congregants will go together to visit the member
seeking contact. This should occur within 2-3 days after receiving this request.
If you would like to volunteer:
Please contact the office and ask for Laura Enzer's or Sara Gati's telephone
number. The synagogue office is open approx. 12 hours per week. Please leave a
detailed message and we will try to reach you asap.
