B'nai Tzedek and Beit Chaverim are informal, tolerant congregations. Some
congregants dress more formally for services -- with ties and jackets for men,
and others dress more casually ("business casual"), Dress tends to be somewhat
more formal at special occasions such as Bat and Bar Mitzvahs. Congregants and
visitors generally cover their heads at services -- yarmulkes are provided at
the entrance to the sanctuary. Jewish congregants and visitors--men and
women--also generally wear tallitot (prayer shawls) for morning services and for
the Kol Nidre service on Yom Kippur Eve. Tallitot are also provided at the door.
All participants ascending the platform (bima) are expected to have their heads
covered and (in the morning) tallitot in place.
